Update: Hocus Pocus 2 has officially been titled, Rise Of The Elderwitch. The film is not a sequel it’s a spin off film. The plot will focus on a witch hunter who teams up with a magical housewife to stop a power-hungry evil witch. The original cast is not likely to be coming back. Tina fey and Melissa McCarthy are being aimed for the two protagonist female leads. While the original film dealt with three witch-sisters coming back on Halloween night, this story will focus on drawing different people coming together to fight a common evil.
News recently broke that a TV movie sequel to the cult-classic Halloween film Hocus Pocus was in the works, and as it turns out, that report is half right. A new report clarifies that while there is indeed a new Hocus Pocus TV movie in the works, it will be a “re-imagining” of the original film, and not a sequel.
Deadline reports that The Royals Scarlett Lacey is handling the script for the new Hocus Pocus project, while original Hocus Pocus producer David Kirschner will be back to executive produce. While some may expect Hocus Pocus and High School Musical director Kenny Ortega to return for this new project, it seems that a new cast and director will be found.
The original film starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as a trio of witches who terrorized Salem, Massachusetts and were hanged for their crimes. 300 years later they are accidentally resurrected, and it’s up to a couple of teenagers, a young girl and an immortal cat to stop them. Naturally, the “re-imagining” will more than likely involve telling that story in modern context.
